Stellenbosch

The family-owned Jordan Wine Estate, situated in Stellenbosch, has been transformed to become one of the leading estates in South Africa.  Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making award-winning wines since 1993 on their 405-acre hillside property with a grape growing history going back over 330 years.  Unique by nature’s design, the farm’s vineyards face North (where Cabernet Sauvignon excels), South (where Sauvignon Blanc competes with the best in the world), East (where Chardonnay produces Burgundian-like white wines) and West (where the Syrah vineyards enjoy the afternoon sun and gravelly soils).

Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2019

The distinct ravine in the Stellenbosch Kloof ward allows the opportunity to harness the cooling influences from the False Bay on our south and east facing slopes. This captures the intense flavour compounds found in the grape skins. A variety of chardonnay clones planted on different slopes, har-vested at different ripening levels and all of it fermented and matured in French oak barrels. These practices help to achieve natural balance and allows for different textural components which we then blend to achieve finesse and complexity. Bold and graceful with fragrances of lemon biscuit and overripe oranges.

Black Magic Merlot 2020

These Merlot vineyards are based on Black Tourmaline-rich granite which darkens the soil, leading to perfumed, inky wines. Harvested from mature east and west facing vineyards established on mother soils of decomposed granite. Part whole-berry fermentation and softer pump-overs extract aromas of red plums and dark bitter chocolate. French oak maturation seasons the wine to accentuate the seductive flavors and generous velvety tannins.

The Long Fuse Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

To create the perfect soil environment for our Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, many large, sub-surface granite boulders were excavated and blown up with dynamite. One of the boulders required over 300 charges, necessitating an exceptionally long fuse. Progressive techniques such as overhead fermenters, pump-overs and gravity flow allow for the extraction of fully developed flavours and soft ripe tannin’s without compensating the tension and elegance captured from the various Cabernet slopes. Here especially, the climate plays a significant role to allow great fruit expression and classic essences of cedar, brambles and toasted tobacco.

The Prospector Syrah 2018

The Prospector Syrah, acknowledging the massive public support the winery received in the campaign to save the Cape Winelands from a recent application to prospect and mine various minerals. The gold rush of the 1800’s led to the discovery of tin in the gravels underlying the Syrah vineyards. The allure of wealth was fleeting as the prospector dug over the soils for the vigneron. Notes of peppered charcuterie, chipotle and red fruits are in abundance with a medium–bodied framework that lends itself to a variety of meat-based dishes and cooking techniques.

The Real McCoy Riesling 2021

The Riesling is harvested from a south-facing vineyard, situated on 600-million-year-old decomposed granite, one of the highest and coolest sites on Jordan Wine Estate. Intense lemon-lime flavours and a crisp fruitiness make it a superb partner with food, with the mineral-rich hints and subtle spiciness adding to its intrigue. From the 2010 vintage, South African winemakers were allowed to call Riesling just that … Riesling. The phrase ‘The Real McCoy’ is used in much of the English-speaking world to mean “the real thing.”. ‘The Real McCoy’ is named in honour of one of the world’s most noble varieties.
