Our journey began when we met studying winemaking at Stellenbosch in 2005. Still young and naïve, we were both enamoured by the romance of wine and without really knowing much besides some theory, we struck out together to travel and work abroad to gain more experience.
After doing back-to-back vintages in New Zealand, Australia, and France, Nicola and I were totally hooked on wine and each other of course! We tied the knot in 2010 and then we were blessed with the birth of our beautiful twin girls in 2014. At this point we decided that one winemaker in the household would need to suffice, and Nicola settled into the groove of a more conventional 9-5 job, allowing her to devote more time and energy to our growing family.
As time went by, a sense of unfulfillment emerged, and we began to re-evaluate our priorities. The monotony of routine and her longing for creative expression drove us to reassess our goals. We recognized the need to revive our shared passion for winemaking and reignite the spark that once drove us.
This introspection led to the conception of Ennui Wines, a venture to bring us closer to our roots, crafting unique wines that tell a story, and to share them with like-minded people who appreciate the beauty of wine.
