Hartenberg Estate

Bottelary Hills, Stellenbosch

We are a picturesque family-owned wine estate with a Cape First Growth Classification, situated on the Bottelary Hills, Stellenbosch. Our philosophy is to produce soft, rich, yet elegant wines that all have the ability to age and retain brightness of fruit – wines that are timeless, classic and fresh.  This is achieved through combining decades of in-depth knowledge of our terroir with constant innovation and attention to detail.

Hartenberg’s holistic approach encompasses all aspects of the farm, including everyone who lives and works here. The Mackenzie family, owners of the estate since 1986, strive continuously to safeguard Hartenberg and their philosophy to “leave Hartenberg in a better condition than when we started”.

We are passionate about farming regeneratively and our Estate is home to an abundance of indigenous plants and wildlife, including over 75 recorded bird species, duikers, steenbok and mongooses. All of our wines are vegan friendly too.

Our wines are produced, bottled and packaged on the estate and our underground cellar, the largest privately owner cellar in South Africa, affords us the perfect environment to age our wines for a few years before their release.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

A sublimely expressive wine that shows promise to deliver even more with ageing. Vibrant black cherry and blackcurrant on the nose underpinned by aromas of fynbos and tobacco. Just-ripe, juicy dark fruit is present on entry as well, showcasing an elegant and plush palate. Fine-grained, dry tannins prompt a lingering savoury and earthy finish.
